I'm going to gush over something, please allow me to do this just once.
I am so amazed by this little application
Microsoft Live Labs is developing called
Photosynth. In so many words, the application is designed to group together photos in a 3-D environment, mimicking real life, and allowing you to virtually make your way through that environment like you're floating around...god-like if you will. If you want to see something closer up, just zoom in and it will (hopefully) pull up another photo with a higher resolution so you can get in as close as possible.
As a photographer this excites me, because more than
Flickr or any other online photo service with tags, etc. this image recognition is done through the program, allowing you to simply upload the photos and have it add them to the central database of other photos. That means, when it's time to get a closeup of the brick with your name on it at your high school/college/jail, somebody's 8 megapixel shot that's been blended in there will let you see every speck of mortar.
Enough of my blah blah blah,
this video will pretty much explain everything better than I can. Digg the cool techno music too.
